Portia Hein
Portia Hein draws upon associations common to both nature and painting, along with other artistic representations of nature, such as those of John Muir, to appropriate a language from which one can experience transcendence and bliss. Portia Hein’s nature abstractions explore not only the subject represented, but also the artist’s trace.
Portia Hein’s paintings are engaging and speak to the ways in which we have turned our experiences with nature into an icon that represents and investigates where we situate ourselves in relation to the natural. In this exhibition, Portia Hein’s paintings employ the fluidity of paint to suggest botanical forms as they grow out of occupied space while her watercolors express depictions of a landscape as a force of renewal and growth. Her works look at nature from an environmental angle showing the importance and the serenity of nature.
